Elephant Kundan Cascade Jhumkas

An elephant stands inside this earring. Below a stone-set diamond stud hangs a tall dome paved in rows of uncut-style kundan stones; beneath it, a caparisoned elephant worked entirely in small clear stones walks on a platform banded with deep green stones. From there the piece cascades — pearl rows, a ring of tiny stone-set jhumka bells, more pearls, and a final pearl fringe. It is among the most detailed earrings you can wear that is still recognisably temple jewellery.

What makes this pair work

  • A figure, not a motif. Most temple earrings use a flower, mango or peacock. A fully modelled elephant is rarer, and it is the first thing anyone will ask you about.
  • Kundan rows above, stones below. The flat uncut-style setting on the dome contrasts with the brilliant-cut stones on the elephant, so the two halves read separately rather than blurring.
  • The green band is the pivot. One line of colour between two expanses of white and gold, placed exactly where the eye needs a break.
  • Mini jhumkas inside the cascade. Tiny bells hidden among the pearl rows — a detail you only notice up close, which is the mark of a well-made piece.

How to style it

  • Let them be the only jewellery. No necklace, no tikka, no heavy bangles. A piece with this much detail needs empty space around it.
  • Hair up and tight. A bun or a sleek plait. The cascade will catch in loose hair and in a dupatta pinned at the shoulder.
  • High necklines work best — a boat-neck or collared blouse gives the long drop a clean background.
  • Ivory, cream, gold, pale pink and bottle green all suit. The near-white stone work can get lost against a heavily zari-worked gold saree, so choose a quieter fabric and let the earring carry the detail.
  • For a wedding, engagement or reception. The elephant also makes these a natural choice for a Gaja Lakshmi pooja or a Dussehra function.

Please note

This is premium imitation (fashion) jewellery. The clear stones are cubic zirconia — they are not diamonds and are not sold as such. The green stones are decorative stones, not emeralds. The pearls are pearl beads, not cultured or natural pearls. This is a standard finish, not an anti-tarnish or specially coated piece.

Caring for it

  • Put jewellery on last — after makeup, perfume and hairspray have fully dried — and take it off before bathing, exercise, swimming or sleeping.
  • Wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth after each wear, and use a soft dry brush around the elephant and through the mini bells, where dust collects out of sight.
  • Keep away from perfume, deodorant, creams, water, hot water, detergent, household chemicals and prolonged sweat. Do not wash or soak.
  • Store flat or hanging in an airtight box, on its own. The cascade tangles readily with chains and other drop earrings.
  • Always lift by the stud, never by the cascade or the elephant platform.

Frequently asked questions

What does the elephant symbolise in Indian jewellery?
The elephant is associated with Lord Ganesha and with Gaja Lakshmi — the form of Lakshmi flanked by elephants — and signifies prosperity, strength and good fortune. It is a recurring motif on temple jewellery, especially pieces worn at Diwali and Dussehra.

What is kundan work?
Kundan is a traditional Indian setting technique where flat, uncut-style stones are held in place by fine strips of metal rather than claws. It gives a smooth, flush surface quite different from the raised sparkle of brilliant-cut stones, and the two are often combined in one piece, as here.

Will these be comfortable for a full function?
They are long and detailed, so the weight is real. Hair up helps, and ear supports behind the lobe make a noticeable difference across a long evening.

Are these suitable for Diwali, Dussehra and Navratri?
Yes — and the elephant motif makes them particularly apt for Diwali and Gaja Lakshmi pooja. For Dandiya nights, a shorter pair is more practical.

Are the clear stones diamonds?
No. They are cubic zirconia, sold in India as American diamond or AD. They are not diamonds and carry none of a diamond's value.

Are the pearls real?
No. They are pearl beads, not cultured or natural pearls.

Is this jewellery anti-tarnish?
No. This is a standard gold-tone finish, not an anti-tarnish or specially coated piece. Wiping it dry after each wear and keeping it away from perfume and sweat is what extends the finish.
