Five Jhumka Crescent Earrings

Instead of one bell, five. A ruby-petalled flower stud with a green oval centre sits above a wide crescent arch — ruby-red ovals along its face, white stones beneath them, green beads studding the outer rim — and from the arch hang five separate jhumka domes, each ringed with its own pearl fringe, with green pear-cut drops filling the spaces between. The centre jhumka hangs lowest, so the whole piece falls in a soft V.

What makes this pair work

  • Five bells, five rhythms. Each dome swings independently. The effect in motion is quite different from a single jhumka — closer to the shimmer of a vaddanam than a standard earring.
  • The graduated drop. Longest at the centre, shorter at the sides, so the earring follows the natural line of the jaw rather than cutting across it.
  • Green beads on the rim. A small detail that stops the crescent from being a solid band of red and lifts the whole upper half.
  • Width without a heavy base. The spread comes from the arch; the length comes from hollow domes and fringe. Neither adds much weight.

How to style it

  • Wear nothing at the neck, or a choker at most. This pair spreads wide and falls low — it occupies the space a necklace normally uses. A bare neckline is genuinely the better look here.
  • Silk is the natural home. Kanjivaram, pattu, Banarasi; a half-saree or langa voni for a function; a lehenga for a wedding.
  • Red, maroon, mustard, cream and deep green all work. Against green silk the rim beads come forward; against red the ruby ovals do.
  • Hair up without exception. Five domes behind loose hair is five domes nobody sees — and they will tangle.
  • For Dandiya and Garba nights this is the pair to pick from the whole range: the movement is the entire point, and it shows most when you are dancing.

Please note

This is premium imitation (fashion) jewellery. The red, green and white stones are decorative stones — they are not rubies, emeralds or diamonds, and are not sold as such. The pearls are pearl beads, not cultured or natural pearls. This is a standard finish, not an anti-tarnish or specially coated piece.

Caring for it

  • Put jewellery on last — after makeup, perfume and hairspray have fully dried — and take it off before bathing, exercise, swimming or sleeping.
  • Wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth after each wear, and use a soft dry brush between the domes where dust and product collect.
  • Keep away from perfume, deodorant, creams, water, hot water, detergent, household chemicals and prolonged sweat. Do not wash or soak.
  • Store flat in an airtight box. Five fringes tangle readily — keep this pair away from chains and other drop earrings.
  • Lift by the stud. The small rings joining each dome to the arch are the weakest point.

Frequently asked questions

What is a multi-jhumka earring?
A multi-jhumka carries several small bell-shaped domes from a single bar or arch, rather than one large dome. It is a traditional South Indian and Hyderabadi form, chosen for the layered movement and sound several bells create when they swing together.

Should I wear a necklace with earrings this wide?
Usually not, or only a close-fitting choker. Wide, low-hanging earrings occupy the same visual space as a short necklace, and wearing both makes the collarbone look crowded. A bare neckline reads as deliberate, not underdressed.

Are these good for Navratri and Dandiya nights?
They are the best choice in this range for it. Five independent domes move constantly, so the earrings come alive while dancing in a way that a single-drop pair does not.

Are these heavy?
Lighter than they look. The domes are hollow and the drops are beads, so most of the size translates into spread rather than weight.

Are the red and green stones real rubies and emeralds?
No. They are decorative stones in the kemp tradition and are not sold as rubies or emeralds. The same applies to the white stones, which are not diamonds.

Are the pearls real?
No. They are pearl beads, not cultured or natural pearls.

Is this jewellery anti-tarnish?
No. This is a standard gold-tone finish, not an anti-tarnish or specially coated piece. Wiping it dry after each wear and keeping it away from perfume and sweat is what extends the finish.
