Peacock Crest Mint Chandbalis

A crest, then a crescent. The top is a small architectural cluster — a ruby-red pear-cut rising above a square green stone, flanked by white-stone leaves and ruby accents, all held in beaded gold edging. Below it hangs an open crescent ringed in white stones, with a tiny cluster of pearl drops suspended at the centre like a bell inside a moon. The fringe alternates mint green ovals with pearls.

What makes this pair work

  • A square stone, not a round one. The green square at the crest is a small departure that stops the top from looking like every other floral stud.
  • Beaded gold edging throughout. The fine granulated border is traditional temple detailing and gives the gold texture, so it does not read as flat plate.
  • The suspended pearl cluster. Hung in the open centre of the crescent, it swings separately from the outer fringe — two speeds of movement in one earring.
  • Open, not packed. The empty centre keeps a wide earring light on the ear and light to look at.

How to style it

  • A good everyday-festive pair. Less heavy than the bridal designs, more present than a plain jhumka — right for a house pooja, an office ethnic day, a Golu visit or a family lunch.
  • Cotton silk and lighter sarees suit this better than a heavy bridal Kanjivaram. Also good with a kurti or an anarkali.
  • Mustard, cream, pista, maroon and bottle green all work. The ruby crest gives you a link to warm colours, the mint beads to cool ones.
  • A thin chain or a short choker is fine here — the open crescent leaves enough room that a small necklace will not crowd it.
  • Hair up or to one side, so the empty centre of the crescent reads as a shape rather than filling with hair.

Please note

This is premium imitation (fashion) jewellery. The red, green and white stones are decorative stones — they are not rubies, emeralds or diamonds, and are not sold as such. The pearls are pearl beads, not cultured or natural pearls. This is a standard finish, not an anti-tarnish or specially coated piece.

Caring for it

  • Put jewellery on last — after makeup, perfume and hairspray have fully dried — and take it off before bathing, exercise, swimming or sleeping.
  • Wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth after each wear, and use a soft dry brush along the beaded gold edging, where dust lodges between the granules.
  • Keep away from perfume, deodorant, creams, water, hot water, detergent, household chemicals and prolonged sweat. Do not wash or soak.
  • Store flat in an airtight box so the fringe and the inner cluster do not tangle with other pieces.
  • Lift by the stud, not by the crescent or the hanging cluster.

Frequently asked questions

Which earrings suit an office ethnic day or a small pooja?
A chandbali with an open centre, like this one, is a good middle ground — clearly festive but not bridal in weight or scale. Fully paved or multi-jhumka designs are better kept for weddings.

What is beaded or granulated gold work?
Granulation is a traditional technique where tiny metal beads are applied along the edges of a design. It gives the gold a textured border and is a recurring marker of South Indian temple jewellery.

What is a chandbali earring?
A chandbali is built around a crescent-moon shape — chaand means moon, bali means earring. It entered Indian jewellery in the Mughal era and became a staple of South Indian festive and temple jewellery.

Are these suitable for Diwali, Dussehra and Navratri?
Yes, and they are among the more wearable options for daytime events — Golu visits, a Dussehra lunch, a Lakshmi pooja at home — where a heavier pair would be more than the occasion needs.

Are the red and green stones real rubies and emeralds?
No. They are decorative stones in the kemp tradition and are not sold as rubies or emeralds. The white stones are not diamonds.

Are the pearls real?
No. They are pearl beads, not cultured or natural pearls.

Is this jewellery anti-tarnish?
No. This is a standard gold-tone finish, not an anti-tarnish or specially coated piece. Wiping it dry after each wear and keeping it away from perfume and sweat is what extends the finish.
