Pearl Cascade Peacock Jhumkas

The longest pair in this range, and the one built almost entirely around pearls. A peacock curves upward from the ear, its whole body outlined in small pearl beads with white stones through the centre, a ruby-red stone at the crest and a green pear-cut in the breast. Beneath it hangs a ruby-paved dome in white-stone lattice — and below that, three descending tiers of pearl tassels, each ring slightly narrower than the one above, falling well past the jawline.

What makes this pair work

  • The cascade is the design. Three stacked rings of pearls give a waterfall effect that a single fringe cannot — the earring keeps moving long after you have stopped.
  • Pearl-outlined, not pearl-dropped. Tracing the peacock's entire body in pearls is unusual and labour-heavy; it is what gives the top half its softness against all the stone work.
  • A small, dense dome. The ruby bell is deliberately compact so it does not compete with the tassels below it.
  • Length that flatters. The tapering tiers draw a vertical line down the neck — lengthening rather than widening, which is the opposite of what a chandbali does.

How to style it

  • Wear no necklace at all. These fall past the collarbone; anything at the neck will physically tangle with the lowest tier. A bare neckline is the only correct answer here.
  • Hair in a high bun or tight plait. Loose hair and a three-tier pearl tassel is a knot waiting to happen.
  • A high or closed blouse neckline works best — a boat neck or high collar gives the pearls a clean backdrop. Deep V necklines leave the tassels floating in empty space.
  • Cream, ivory, gold, maroon and bottle green silks. Against ivory the pearls merge beautifully; against maroon they stand right out.
  • Best for a wedding, reception or engagement — somewhere you will be photographed and seated, rather than rushing through a crowded pooja.

Please note

This is premium imitation (fashion) jewellery. The red, green and white stones are decorative stones — they are not rubies, emeralds or diamonds, and are not sold as such. The pearls are pearl beads, not cultured or natural pearls. This is a standard finish, not an anti-tarnish or specially coated piece.

Caring for it

  • Put jewellery on last — after makeup, perfume and hairspray have fully dried — and take it off before bathing, exercise, swimming or sleeping.
  • Wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth after each wear. Pearl beads in particular dull when perfume or hairspray settles on them, so spray scent before dressing, never after.
  • Keep away from perfume, deodorant, creams, water, hot water, detergent, household chemicals and prolonged sweat. Do not wash or soak.
  • Store hanging or laid completely flat in an airtight box. Three tiers of tassels tangle very easily — keep this pair on its own.
  • Always lift by the stud. Never pull the pair out of a box by the tassels.

Frequently asked questions

What is a cascading or tassel jhumka?
A cascading jhumka has several stacked rings of hanging beads below the main bell, each slightly narrower than the one above, creating a waterfall shape. It is a long, formal form usually kept for weddings and receptions rather than daily or casual wear.

Can I wear a necklace with long tassel earrings?
Better not to. At this length the lowest tier reaches the collarbone, so a necklace will both tangle with the tassels and crowd the look. A bare neck is the intended styling.

How do I stop tassel earrings from tangling?
Store them flat or hanging, on their own, never loose in a box with chains. When putting them on, hold the stud and let the tassels hang free rather than gathering them in your hand.

Are these suitable for Diwali, Dussehra and Navratri?
Yes for a Diwali party or a formal Dussehra function. For Dandiya or a crowded pooja, a shorter pair is more practical — long tassels catch on dupattas and shoulders.

Are the pearls real?
No. They are pearl beads, not cultured or natural pearls.

Are the red and green stones real rubies and emeralds?
No. They are decorative stones in the kemp tradition and are not sold as rubies or emeralds. The white stones are not diamonds.

Is this jewellery anti-tarnish?
No. This is a standard gold-tone finish, not an anti-tarnish or specially coated piece. Wiping it dry after each wear and keeping it away from perfume and sweat is what extends the finish.
