Ruby Kemp Round Stud Jhumkas

These are classic kemp-style jhumkas — the pair you reach for with almost any silk saree. The large round stud has a flower of white petal stones around a green centre, ringed by square-set ruby-red stones and finished with a border of pearl beads and tiny gold-tone beads. Below it hangs a dome set in a neat grid of square ruby-red stones, topped with a row of white stones and finished with a full pearl fringe.

What makes this pair special

  • A big, round statement stud. The stud alone is substantial — a ruby ring around a white stone flower, framed in pearls — so it looks rich even when the jhumka is hidden by hair.
  • Square-set ruby grid. Both the stud ring and the dome use square-cut ruby-red stones in a tidy lattice, the signature of traditional kemp work.
  • Pearl border. A ring of pearl beads around the stud softens the red and matches the fringe below.
  • Compact and balanced. One dome, not three — a traditional jhumka proportion that suits long functions.

Styling tips

  • Red, maroon, mustard, green, peacock-blue and cream Kanjivaram or pattu sarees — ruby kemp jhumkas suit almost all of them.
  • Coordinate with a kemp necklace, mango mala or Lakshmi haram; the compact size leaves room for a necklace at the neck.
  • Varalakshmi Vratham, poojas and temple visits — a timeless, traditional pair.
  • Brides' mothers, sisters and family often choose this style because it pairs with everything they already own.
  • Hair: a jasmine-decorated braid is the classic look; works with a bun too.

Please note

This is premium imitation (fashion) jewellery. The red, white and green stones are decorative stones — they are not rubies, diamonds or emeralds, and are not sold as such. "Kemp" here describes the traditional style of red stone work, not a gemstone. The pearls are pearl beads, not cultured or natural pearls. This is a standard finish, not an anti-tarnish or specially coated piece.

Caring for it

  • Put jewellery on last — after makeup, perfume and hairspray have fully dried — and take it off before bathing, exercise, swimming or sleeping.
  • Wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth after each wear, and use a soft dry brush along the ruby grid.
  • Keep away from perfume, deodorant, creams, water, hot water, detergent, household chemicals and prolonged sweat. Do not wash or soak.
  • Store flat in an airtight box so the pearl border and fringe are not crushed.

Frequently asked questions

What are kemp jhumkas?
Kemp (kempu) jhumkas are South Indian bell-shaped earrings set with deep red stones, often with green accents, in a gold-tone setting. They come from the temple jewellery tradition and are worn with silk sarees for weddings and festivals.

Which saree colours suit ruby jhumkas?
Almost all — red, maroon, mustard, green, peacock-blue and cream silk sarees all pair well with ruby and gold.

Can I wear a necklace with the Ruby Kemp Round Stud Jhumkas?
Yes. Their compact size works with a kemp necklace, mango mala or Lakshmi haram without the look feeling crowded.

Are these suitable for Varalakshmi Vratham or pooja?
Yes. Ruby kemp jhumkas are a traditional choice for Varalakshmi Vratham, festival poojas and temple visits.

Are the red stones real rubies?
No. They are decorative kemp-style stones and are not sold as rubies. The white stones are not diamonds. This is premium imitation jewellery.

Are the pearls real?
No. They are pearl beads, not cultured or natural pearls.

Is this jewellery anti-tarnish?
No. This is a standard gold-tone finish, not an anti-tarnish or specially coated piece. Wiping it dry after each wear and keeping it away from perfume and sweat helps preserve the finish.

Is this a good gift?
Yes. Classic ruby jhumkas are one of the most popular gifts for weddings, festivals and return gifts for close family.
